Αρχιτεκτονικός σχεδιασμός: studio.8 architects

Η Jenny και η Diana, ιδιοκτήτριες του “APIS care corner”, επιδίωξαν να δημιουργήσουν στη γειτονιά της Κυψέλης έναν χώρο ευεξίας με συμπεριληπτική ταυτότητα. Σε συνεργασία με το studio.8 architects, σχεδιάστηκε ένας χώρος που επαναπροσδιορίζει τη σύγχρονη εμπειρία self-care, μακριά από τα κλισέ των παραδοσιακών nail salons.

Ο σχεδιασμός είχε από την αρχή στόχο να αποφύγει την τυπολογία ενός συμβατικού salon. Επιλέχθηκαν gender-neutral χρωματισμοί, industrial υφές και επιλεγμένα vintage στοιχεία, δημιουργώντας ένα περιβάλλον με ανεπιτήδευτο χαρακτήρα και ανοιχτή, φιλόξενη ατμόσφαιρα. Με την πρώτη ματιά, το APIS care corner θυμίζει περισσότερο café ή χώρο συνάντησης – και αυτό δεν είναι τυχαίο: αποτελεί έναν τόπο οικειότητας, όπου η περιποίηση ενσωματώνεται στην καθημερινότητα, σχεδόν αβίαστα.

Ο εσωτερικός χώρος ορίζεται από τα υπάρχοντα γυάλινα υαλοπετάσματα της γωνιακής όψης, τα οποία φέρνουν έντονο φυσικό φως και διαφάνεια, σε αντιπαραβολή με τη γυμνή, εμφανή κολόνα στο κέντρο του χώρου. Οι υλικότητες εναλλάσσονται μεταξύ ανεπεξέργαστων επιφανειών, γήινων τόνων και μεταλλικών λεπτομερειών σε μαύρο, συνθέτοντας ένα περιβάλλον με καθαρές αντιθέσεις – καθρέφτη της πολυπλοκότητας και της ετερότητας της ίδιας της ζωής.

Η επιλογή vintage επίπλων από second-hand αγορές ενισχύει τη χειροποίητη, προσωπική αίσθηση του χώρου, καθώς και το στοιχείο της κοινότητας. Ο χώρος φιλοξενεί συχνά τοπικούς δημιουργούς, λειτουργώντας ως πεδίο έκφρασης και ανταλλαγής.

Στο APIS care corner, τίποτα δεν είναι προσποιητό. Ο σχεδιασμός, οι άνθρωποι και η εμπειρία λειτουργούν ως ενιαίο σύνολο, με σεβασμό στη διαφορετικότητα και στόχο τη δημιουργία ενός σύγχρονου τόπου φροντίδας, ανοιχτού προς όλους.

Το όνομα “APIS” –η λατινική ονομασία της μέλισσας– δεν επιλέχθηκε τυχαία: όπως η μέλισσα στην κυψέλη, έτσι κι αυτός ο χώρος ζει, δημιουργεί, και τολμά να κάνει αισθητή την παρουσία του.

APIS care corner Design: studio.8 architects

Jenny and Diana, the founders of “APIS care corner,” envisioned a self-care salon in the heart of Kypseli that challenges conventions and redefines the typical nail salon experience. In collaboration with studio.octό architects, they created a space that is inclusive, welcoming, and embedded in the daily rhythm of the neighborhood.

From the outset, the design aimed to move away from the stereotypical aesthetic often associated with beauty salons. A palette of gender-neutral tones, industrial textures, and selected vintage elements formed a spatial language that is both approachable and open to all. At first glance, APIS care corner resembles a casual café — a place where one could meet friends and share stories — only here, you leave with both a coffee and a self-care ritual.

The interior is structured around the existing floor-to-ceiling glass façades of the corner site, which flood the space with natural light and transparency. These stand in deliberate contrast to the raw, exposed central column, creating a dialogue between lightness and solidity. The material palette combines untreated surfaces, earthy hues, and black metal details, drawing out a tactile narrative that reflects the richness of everyday life and embraces the beauty of contrast.

Vintage furniture pieces, sourced individually from second-hand markets, enhance the handmade, personal feel of the space and speak to a spirit of community and sustainability. Local artists are regularly invited to exhibit and contribute, turning the salon into a site of expression and mutual support.

Nothing feels out of place in this setting. Every design decision, every material, and every gesture contributes to a holistic experience that puts care, authenticity, and inclusivity at its core.

The name “APIS” — Latin for bee — encapsulates the spirit of the project: like a bee in its hive, this space lives, creates, and buzzes with presence
