The project transforms an unused 70m2 technical level on the ground floor of a private villa near Athens into a sculptural wine cellar and gym. Originally closed off, the space suffered from irregular geometry, high humidity, and a lack of ventilation. The intervention began with a full hydro-isolation treatment and the installation of a new ventilation system, establishing the foundation for comfortable and controlled microclimate.
Floor levels shifting between 1 and 2.5 meters, narrow technical corridors all this was synthesized and resolved in one design concept. The spatial composition draws inspiration from ancient Greek theatres, where tiered seating creates dramatic depth. This concept informed the sculptural language and the interplay of light, material, and elevation.
Handcrafted elements define the atmosphere. The wine cellar is enveloped in grey-amber tones, contrasted by corten-effect metal sliding doors that discreetly conceal all technical equipment. At the center, a monolithic bar table carved from black lava stone becomes the focal point of the room.
A dynamic front composition houses the wine fridges, featuring brushed, fire-treated solid wood with a rich, tactile texture. Along the perimeter, wine bottle storage is crafted from simple structural reinforcement bars, an idea echoed with the oxidized metal shelves for the glassware.
The result is a raw yet refined interior, where craftsmanship and materiality elevate a once-neglected technical zone into a striking, atmospheric retreat.
